Nazre could not be reached for comment and has not spoken publicly about the case. Hermle argued they are unfounded. Related Coverage. Kleiner is one of the top venture firms when it comes to recruiting women, Hermle said. The most we'd heard was that Nazre was exploring raising a fund last summer, and one sighting placed him in the Lufthansa lounge at London's Heathrow Airport—presumably on his way to Germany.
He's now advising Reliance on launching a mobile video-ad network, MediaNama reported earlier this month. That's especially interesting, since one of Nazre's highest-profile investment for Kleiner was InMobi, an India-based operator of a mobile-advertising network. The MediaNama reports refer to Nazre by what appears to be his given name, Aniruddha, instead of Ajit, the name he used as a Kleiner partner. Nazre did not respond to requests for comment on his new position. Kleiner likewise did not respond to a request for comment.
Pao, meanwhile, has remained in the Bay Area. Though the career trajectory at SAP for Ajit pointed upward, his passion for learning eventually got the better of him.
Kleiner was known for its Midas touch especially with investments in almost all the huge success stories of that time including Google, Juniper, Amazon, etc.. Ajit was in a tough spot — why leave a privileged position when you have a mentor like Hasso, the most powerful person in the company, rooting for you? The Kleiner chapter was a totally different ball game for Ajit, and it was a steep learning curve on partnerships and people.
KP was untouchable! While 4 partners ended up leaving the partnership not long after, Ajit continued as a Senior Partner, navigating his way around the uncertain world of venture capital, and honing his business acumen in the process. KPCB was extremely keen on succeeding in China. To enter the market, KP ended up acquiring a Chinese venture firm. Ram wanted to start a fund together with KP focused on India.
If you find something, great! Nobody is going to stop us. There were of course several hits, and some misses, but it was all part of the learning curve. Jio has the ability to transform the Indian sub-continent by offering broadband connectivity to its people. Ajit is currently a venture advisor at Wellington Partners. Ajit has spent a lot of time in the field of artificial Intelligence right from his PhD thesis in which he integrated robotics with orthopedics , and his passion for how AI will transform the world is palpable.
AI is going to make us compete like we have never before! Ajit thinks that the medical profession will feel the maximum impact of AI. The reason AI is not as pervasive in medicine yet is the fear of liability. But eventually outcomes will prevail and AI will become more ubiquitous in medicine. Looking back at his experiences, good and bad, over the last 25 years, Ajit believes that taking a big step back helps in gaining new perspective.
That's not the only place where Nazre has vanished. He is nowhere to be found on Kleiner's website, which lists some former team members as "partners emeriti. We found a Facebook account for Nazre which appeared to be genuine: His friends list matched people we knew were professional acquaintances.
We sent a message to the account asking for comment. We didn't hear back. We asked a bunch of people who knew Nazre professionally if they'd heard from him or knew how to find him. A source close to Kleiner did tell us that the firm was "transitioning" Nazre off of the boards of companies where he represented the firm. This is not a simple process. Unless he voluntarily resigned, each company's board would have to take a vote on whether to kick him off and accept any replacement.
Details vary based on the company's specific rules. Not every venture investment requires or allows a board seat, of course. But most startups consider it prestigious to have a Kleiner Perkins partner on their board. Nazre was active on Kleiner's cleantech team, including investments as far afield as Germany.
